I was hired as the Hospitality Intern for EDI International.

During my time at EDI I was able to put knowledge I have learned in school and apply it to the real world. It is here I learned so much about how the real world of design ebbs and flows. On my first week I learned about library maintenance and processing CFA’s, and creating project binders. I processed a lot of CFA’s for various projects and made sure to keep up with documentation after it was sent off. For two projects I was tasked with creating the design packages for the clients. I ordered all the samples of the finishes that were selected and then neatly packed everything and made sure each item was tagged according to our standards. I also helped to write specifications for projects using the spexx program. I also got to design a reception desk and selected the finishes for a Clubhouse, Fitness center, and leasing office.

I got to play a technical role in various projects using both AutoCAD, Revit, and Excel. I designed the lighting for a project, drafted interior stair cases, set up x-refs for different unit types, arranged unit types within the building shell, and of course labeled many plans during my time there. Excel was used to create legends and keep track of the submittals.

Although I wish I could share more but due to client confidentiality I am unable to share to many project specific details.

I cannot thank EDI enough for all that I have learned, Dave taught me how to be a ADA code wizard, Juan showed me how to be efficient in CAD, Catherine taught me how to love Revit, and lastly thank you to Rebecca for taking a chance on me and letting me join the team!
